Patriot Act

SAN DIEGO– Strategic Business Communications, Inc., a business consulting company, has been elected by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) for the Spouse Patriot Award.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by this committee and all that they stand for. SBC prides itself on a family first working environment so there was never a second thought about my decision,” says Jim Hernandez, President of SBC.

In recent months, Brita De Angelo, a meeting planner at SBC, was given news that her husband would be deployed for an extended period of time. With a newly born child, this was going to be a difficult situation to handle, considering she is a full-time employee. Fortunately with Jim’s help, accommodations were made for Brita to have time to care for her child while still working.

“From the moment Jim Hernandez found out my husband was being deployed, he and his wife, Cheryl, offered to help in any way. Initially, many people offered to help but few followed through. This is why the Hernandez’s help and love has meant so much to our family,” says Brita.

“While my husband is deployed it is so helpful for him to know my daughter and I are looked after in his absence. I am thankful I was given the opportunity to take care of the family and still have job security,” added Brita.

The Spouse Act award recognizes employers who voluntarily assist guard and reserve spouses. These employers share the challenges of military service which include helping spouses manage their household by adjusting work schedules.
